Maël Bouillon

I am a French scientist with a PhD in Biochemistry, Cellular and Molecular Biology from the University of Angers (Angers, France), where I also completed a Master’s degree in Cellular and Molecular Neurobiology. My overall interest in research is to elucidate the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying complex human diseases.

During my PhD program my scientific workwas dedicated to the characterization and therapeutic targeting of an oncogenic gene fusion in glioblastoma. I am currently pursuing my postdoctoral researchin the MAGE Lab at GIGA Research Institute  where I am studying RBP regulating RNAs maturation and ribosome biogenesis in the context of spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) disease.

My expertise enables me to work at the interface between fundamental and translational research, investigating cellular adaptation mechanisms in these diseases with the aim of developing novel biomarkers and therapeutic strategies.

Outside the lab, I spend my free time playing board games, reading, and listening to music, activities that stimulate both my creativity and curiosity.
